Diwali 2009
This year Diwali we did not make any cookies and neither did we have an open house to call over all family and friends. This year is more like a family relaxing outing with relatives. But for me it wasn't relaxing at all....I did enjoy it very very much, loved it all and would love to have this kind of outing again. It's more like a FUN FILLED NON STOP HAVOC VACATION!!!! FUYOOOOO.....
It all started on the BIG DAY itself - DIWALI DAY. Just after midnight, it was so noisy, fireworks everywhere. I did my last minute packing till about 2AM and slept of. Dad came back from work about 3AM. I woke up about 6AM and we all left KL at 7AM. Dad had to sleep as he just came back from work and sister will just make the journey longer by driving slowly. So, I decided I will go ahead all the way, that is if I can. I was too excited and the music keep me going, not to forget the motivation from my sister to DRIVE FASTER.... HA HA HA!!!
We landed in Sonia's house in Bukit Mertajam at 11AM. Not bad aa even though we made a pit stop on the way. And it's not my car I am driving, it's my dad's Nissan Sunny. I had a good hand massage every time when I went fast as the steering starts to vibrate. =)
From Sonia's place, 4 cars left heading to the Island Penang...towards Batu Ferringi. At the chalets, another 3 cars joined us. there were about 40 of us all together. Hey this is only a tiny small portion of my gigantic family tree. We carried all the stuff to out rooms. We were all starving!!!! It was potluck time.
Everyone brought something unique....there was fish, chicken rendang, udang sambal, vegetarian chicken....just thinking about this is making me hungry again. FOOD WAS EXTREMELY DELICIOUS!!! We ate by the tiny pool which was behind the chalet. Time was flying as it was nearly 3PM. I grabbed Sonia and headed back into the chalet to prepare for the games.
At 3:30PM, Sonia and me went down to the beach with all the things we need. We found a nice spot to make our penalty box, buried the treasure and prepared the treasure map. We finished just in time before the whole group came down at 4PM.
Once we got everyone gathered, we split them into 5 groups, mixing all ages and gender. They had no idea what was ahead. We gave the instructions. When we blew the starting wistle, off everyone went running.
The first clue was on the penalty box. One person had to sit in the penalty box holding the bottle provided and the rest have the fill the bottle with water from the see. The trick is they only can carry the water using their bare hands. There were a few groups that tried cheating by using their t-shirts and even mouth..EWWWW
In just a few minutes we could see everyone was tired!!!
CLUE 2... There are 5 things hidden in the penalty box...find them...It was nice to see everyone in the box digging here and there. What was hidden they didn't know??? Well there was a pencil, eraser, pebble, spoon and some paperclips hanging on the border. This was not that difficult but there was one group that were exhausted and gave up!!!
CLUE 3... Bury a person from neck to toe....this was another simple task. Everyone enjoyed it except the person who got buried.
CLUE 4... Make a bikini for a male member of your group. HA HA HA! YES this was hilarious!!! They were given news paper and a stapler. Unique designs I would say!
Finally they got all the pieces of the map to join and find the treasure. They all started digging and digging and digging....gosh they took so long and yet they could not find the treasure...Finally they made me and Sonia to DIG!!!
ALAMAK!!!! The TREASURE is missing!!! The gold box filled with gold is missing... When Sonia and I was burying the treasure there was a guy watching us....I guess he stole the treasure. HAIYO... As revenge, they threw Sonia and me into the sea.
Well we needed that dipping! So nice...but so tiring!!! Then we continued with a few more games while some swam in the sea and others flew their kites. We had the 3-legged race and the water balloon passing. After a while, one by one started going back to the chalet. Well of course they was the BBQ to be prepared!
After a full fun time on the beach, we ended up in the little pool. After a few dips, we went to the play futsal all wet. Tired we jumped back into to pool. Lastly, all headed back to the chalets to shower.
BBQ was awesome...there was chicken, fish, sausages, pasta, vegetarian....drinks, music and fireworks. We all had a great time until we started the war between male and female in charades. Of course, JITEGE ONLY GIRLS!!! YES, GIRLS WON, YAHOO!!!
After charades, we had antakshri!!! After cleaning up, everyone was so tired we all knocked out!!! I slept at about 1AM. The plan next day is to play more futsal at 10AM.
I woke up at 8AM, pack my things, got ready, and went to check on the boys if they are awake. All were except one, he got some whacking for that!! Morning breakfast was a variety of diwali cookies and cakes with tea. Just by taking one of each kind, filled my tummy. My favorite was the brown cake from bidor and of course jam tarts.
At the futsal court, we did not start playing as the floor was wet and slippery. We just started target practicing by kicking the ball into the goal. Unfortunately, Raj Boy slipped and hit his head....he's a strong boy, he'll be OK! Then we adjourned to a smaller court beside it which was rough and not slippery, played a few games and headed back to the chalet. Check out time was 12PM.
Instead of heading back to KL, we all decided to stay another day in Penang. We all packed our things and went out for lunch. My family and I had chicken rice. I could not miss the opportunity to order KEKPO too. Then we went to the Youth Park...Gosh that park is awesome...It was my first time there, and I did a lot of exercise there. We even met Narinjeet and her brothers there, what a small world.
The final destination of the day was back to Sonia's house. We managed to play a game of entangled before the Taiping gang left. Once they left the house because quiet. Sonia, Trishayal and her mom all were not back yet.
Later at night we started our games session again. We played rangge/KOT, forfeit, charades and finally saidina. Forfeit was hilarious, as some had to do the pole dance, dance like MJ, make a plat, put ice cream all over your face, do the macarena, act like a baby, put on lipstick, put on nail polish, act like a monkey and the best was act as though you are in labor.
We finished Saidina at 5AM!!!! Luckily our beds were closeby as we dragged ourselves into them. In the morning after a Malaysian breakfast of roti canai, nasi lemak and wantan mee, we left Penang.
Our first pit stop was Taiping, where we had lunch, watched the beach video and had tea. Our second pit stop was Bidor, I had a nice time playing with the twins. And finally HOME SWEET HOME at about 11PM. ZZZzzzzz.zzz...zz...z.......

Fellowship Camp 2009
It has become a custom to go to Cameron Highlands for Fellowship Camp during Chinese New Year. It is the first thing we look forward in the beginning of the year. For me I always loved a change of climate for a change and a time away from home and work!!!
It was the year of 2007, it was the first year I attended Fellowship Camp. I was outstanding!!! I had a wonderful time, it was a blast! I just love it all....the freezing mornings....the cold water showers (not that they didn't prepare for us warm water....some bathrooms even had hot water showers). It was my personal choice to take the cold icy cold water showers because of the blood rush and then the warm feeling after that... It just made the whole day more bearable.
I was elected as the group leader....my group members were the most happening people....we named our group LE ROUGE which was THE REDS in French..I think. Our team started a bit down but after one fall, we excelled all the way to TOP. We were the champions. I miss LE ROUGE.
Then it was 2008, help was needed in organizing so I decided to join as a Sewadar. Well it wasn't that bad....I had a good time too....penalizing marks out of teams that made mistakes... I would say many people hated me but it was just because of the duty that was given to me. The Amazing Race on this year was the most longest....I think they had to run around camerons more than 7 kms. The highlight was made after the camp when one of the bus broke down at a rest place... The bus's air brakes got jammed. They tried their best but failed.
We ended up sending the Singapore participants into the nikitan bus and all other passengers squeezed into one bus. This was extreme....so many in one bus + the bags....it was a scary ride. First one guy got sick..then we realized one tyre was getting pregnant because of the weight overloading one side...We had to stop for a while and re organize the weight system on the bus.
Gosh what a trip back....we reached very very late.....
That was the PAST now....let's talk about this year's FELLOWSHIP CAMP 2009!!!
I decided to get back to being a participant this year... hmm.. senior participant..ahem ahem... So here it goes again Friday night meet up point, Titiwangsa Gurdwara!!! The excitement starts there...seeing familiar faces and many new faces....everyone excited!!!
I was in the first bus so what I write is what happened in the first bus... no idea what happened in the second bus. But I will share what I roughly heard which may or may not be true. Don't say I didn't warn. The trip up was good.... All the way we sang songs....we had many talented singers in the bus... We started of with Rehraas...HAHA ... Waheguru tera shuker hai that we had a safe journey!
After the Tapah rest place break, we started antakshri....left side of the bus against the right side. Oh I just love the oldies....we went from old songs to new songs....and then Chinese, Tamil, Malay....GOSH....finally we ended with some kirtan all the way till Tanah Rata Gurdwara.
{Pssssst shhhhhh: I heard the other bus watched a sad movie and slept off}.. =)
As we got of the bus.....gggggrrrrrrrr.....ccccoooolllllldddd...we could feel the chilly cold air....first challenge starts there itself....in that cold chilly wind...dragging our bags up the hill....Then getting a place to sleep....OK even though there were a lot of places here and there....my dearest group doesn't wanna split up. So the six of us endded up sleeping on 2 1/2 mattresses...Left to right....Jasvin,Jusprith,Harvin,Nampreet,Salprith,Gurdeep...Well even though we could not spread ourselves openly and sleep...we kept ourselves warm being so close.
So every night, for me it was very important I had reinforcements to keep myself warm. I know the feeling of the cold morning. DAMN COLD. I wore my favourite thick wooly pajamas, socks and another wool sweater on my tshirt. I had a good sleep and after my cold shower as usual, I am ready to face the day.
Registration was ok... since everyone were adults....we didn't need nametags hanging, we just had temporary stickers.
Ice breakers: It reminded me of the market in Egypt. Where everyone was screaming for attention...The activity was simple....pick 4 numbers out of 1 to 101... go out of the class find the name that is linked to the number and then obviously find the person and get some questions answered about the person. I think you can basically imagine how everyone was.
Grouping: Picking 5 leaders....3 guys and 2 gals....Here it goes again...someone suggested me to be a leader...Who was the culprit? Wait till I get u? I had to go up in front. Guys done need another girl. Another 2 nominations....IDEA.....no need voting...let me step down....Luckily Sanjay agreed because I had already experienced being a leader. So then the rest of the participants were open for sale.....and that's how we got into our groups.
My group: Takht Sri Keshghar Sahib
I would say my group had awesome people in it....there was a variety of all types.....musically inclined, sikhi history masters, kirtanis, hip hoppers, cool, naughty, smart, rebellious, quiet, fun, angels and devils.....A good mixture I would say. =) We just lacked a tabla player which we imported a sewadar .... of course the best, who else, Phobinder.
Well one change which was a great idea was doing Japji and Rehraas in your own group. Instead of the few do in front in the darbar as most of the participant wander in dreamland. We get to choose our own spot and pray together.
Carring on....classes were fantastic and educational....we had our laughter time with our all mighty SANJAY (SERJIT) veeerji. We also had veerji Inderjit, Amreek, Father, .... did I miss out anyone???
I'm still writing this ...not completed yet....

Self Awareness Youth Retreat 2007
Self Awareness Youth Retreat 2007 by Kirn Kaur Khalsa and Chardi Kala.
It was a great experience and miss it already.

It was a nice cozy cloudy day, a great day to be driving.

And then rain started....fuyooo...lot's of rain.

In the mornings, it's so nice and misty ... fresh air filling our lungs.
I have no regrets waking up so early in the morning as we had to be in the darbar by 3:45AM to recite our 5 banis.

Then, we have Kundalini Yoga and meditaion. After a short tea break, we have physical training. I would like to call it as physical torture. It was led by the Cherdi Kala Jetha. Well I loved it as it taught me a thing or two about my limits.

Yeah! stretch........

This was fun, when you are standing....just push away the legs....but when you are the person lying on the ground....phuk nikeldi...

More exercizes...

This was fun at the beginning...but after a while damn...where did the energy and fun went to?

Finally we get breakfast...and for those who needed to catch up their sleep, took a nap.

The 2 naughty girls...

Mr romeo enjoying his nasi lemak.

Phobinder, so helpful, running around making sure the food reaches us.

Our tent...where we slept...it's really very cozy and COLD!!!!!

All so tired...well this was just the beginning...

Maybe he needs a splash of water on his face to wake him up. He he!

Relaxing.....after a tiring midnight yoga challenge!

Relaxing.....after a tiring midnight yoga challenge!

Here's how comfortable the beds in the tents were. I don't know about the rest, but I slept well. It was just the cold mornings which kept me awake.

Even though we had fans, by morning all will be off.

All bright and fresh for the next half of the day.

Girls smile and as you can see behind, ping pong going on! There were some real good players....heads off to them.

The beautiful cozy darbar.
